What is Qigong?

Qigong is a gentle art that integrates movement and breath, and cultivates the body’s vital energy, or Qi (pronounced "chee").   Qigong is primarily performed standing, with simple movements of the arms and legs. These easy exercises do not require a change of clothes, special place, equipment or skills. In China, where it originated, Qigong is practiced by millions of people of all ages and body types. This practice improves health, circulation and vitality, reduces stress, calms the nervous system, and creates a general sense of well-being. Besides the physical benefits, Qigong can be practiced as a form of moving meditation, and can be an excellent way to prepare the body and mind for seated meditation.  Qigong, when practiced mindfully, can lead to deeper access to wisdom and compassion.

What is RHQ?

This form of Qigong emphasizes relaxation and mindful movement. It was developed by Teja Bell in response to leading Qigong at multiple meditation retreats. QIgong Dharma integrates aspects of meditation and qigongSome of the basic principles include underdoing movements, never straining, and always practicing in a manner of dignity and poise.

Qigong is ...

... gentle, flowing meditative movement that is simple and easy to learn yet can have profound results. It can bring ease, well-being and presence very quickly without a lot of effort.

In classes ...

... you will practice Qigong movements with guidance to be mindfully present, keeping a relaxed attitude as we extend ourselves physically. Experiencing this directly in our systems helps us to trust that it is possible to be relaxed in the eye of the storm.

Frequently Asked Questions

FAQs

Will I have to lie on the ground?

Qigong is practiced standing or seated in a chair/sitting on a cushion on the ground. I encourage people to monitor their well-being and practice in a way that makes them most comfortable. Since this is an energy art, you can get much benefit from seated practice, if that is what you choose to do.

What are my parking options?

At the Aikido Center Sacramento, you can park in the lot adjacent (south) of the building. There is also plenty of free street parking with no time limit after 6 pm on weekdays and all day on weekends. The post-office behind the building is closed on weekends.

Can I pay at the door?

Certainly!  It helps me if you preregister, but it is not necessary. You can at the door at whatever level is comfortable to you. If this is your first workshop with me, there is a discount. Ask me. And please talk to me if you really want to attend and money is stopping you.
